Day 25: Feeling The Pain
Wednesday May 11, 2011
Today I’m feeling the pain from yesterday. Sore & aching, legs, back, and feet. It was worth it! We’re going back again tomorrow. This time we’re taking a coworker, Mr. Sour.
Looking at the calendar I see only five days left for this little experiment. I’ve decided to extend it for a while longer, however I won’t be doing daily blog posts. For 30 days I’ll try the fish oil thing then if there are no changes, I’ll give Propecia a go.
In other news, earlier this week I shaved my head – finally. Sometimes I can be such a slacker.
Day 24: Not Another Repeat
Tuesday May 10, 2011
After last Thursday’s embarrassing moment of puking on the hike (twice that is), I decided to do things differently. First being going to bed the night before at a somewhat decent hour (11pm) and second, going to lunch an hour earlier (1pm instead of my predictable 2pm or later routine). Wise decision.
We picked up a couple extra bodies for the hike, a couple coworkers. I felt more energetic this time, not sure why, possibly because it’s earlier in the week. We made it up the Sharmuta, the wise man and I did some speed sprints, and we jogged some of the downhill. Much more of a workout than previous times in my opinion. The wise man says I’ve popped my cherry after the puking event – I’ve pushed myself harder.
We finished in 1:36 (clocked from my Stop Watch Android app on my phone). Good workout everyone.
I haven’t mentioned my hair lately. I don’t see any changes, 30 days may not be long enough, plus it doesn’t look like I’m losing anything new either. Stalemate.
Day 23: It’s Monday, Big Whoop
Monday May 9, 2011
So another week begins. The first eight hours of the day, typical Monday work stuff, you know. Having wrapped up the rest of the class files I moved on to one tidbit that needed to be rewritten – Fonts in OpenGL under Linux. Anyways, I wrote the code using SDL_ttf, replicating the demo’s use as closely as possible. It works for the most part, but there is an issue. Gonna need to work on it when I have more time.
The wise man wants to go to the mountain tomorrow. Not gonna pass that up!
Day 22: Big Movie Sunday
Sunday May 8, 2011
This marks the first day of the last week of this experiment. Time flies by…
It’s been a few weeks since the woman and I have gone to the movies. Nothing but junk has been out and we’ve been waiting for this weekend to come so we could see Thor. I liked it, she liked it, so we had fun. Typically we go to the first showing on Sunday’s to avoid the chair kickers and other dumbasses. Most of the time it works out.
The rest of the day I worked on the OpenGL demo conversion. I got a lot done with five class files left to go. Porting from Windows to Linux can be painful at times.
Day 21: Three Weeks Here
Saturday May 7, 2011
I have things to do this morning, namely get the truck gas, a somewhat decent car wash, and go help my coworker with his WiFi at his house. There’s no point getting into the first two, so onto the WiFi part (briefly). Techie stuff is boring, but I help him determine his router’s username and password and WEP key. Told you, boring, and it took five minutes. I hung out till noon there watching a basketball game recap (Boston vs. Miami).
Okay, now lunch time. I’ll give you three guesses where I went (this should be easy, it’s the same place I go every Saturday). This time I had the Northshore Tacos. After the grub, the woman and I went home. I pretty much spent the rest of the day reading up on Ogre3D, building the source on OSX, and then doing it on Ubuntu. It’s my distraction from the demo I’ve been converting (one of my major flaws, bouncing between projects). I promised myself I’d lay off Ogre until I finish the demo, so that’ll happen tomorrow.
Okay, so it’s now the end of week three. I haven’t touched a cigarette and my head is still bald. In some ways I think it actually looks worse, but the woman says it’s because the rest of my hair is growing so the bald spot is sticking out like a sore thumb. Well, my point is, it isn’t growing or maybe it is and I just can’t see it. Regardless, below is my 3rd week head photo.
Day 20: Friday Blur
Friday May 6, 2011
The week went by quickly, just the way I like it. I can’t actually remember thinking about cigarettes at all and as I look at my head, I’m starting to think that smoking didn’t play much part in my hair loss. Well, perhaps accelerating the process but the loss is my white genes. I have probably said all this before…
I haven’t been eating out as much as I used too (fast food actually accounted for about 95% of the food we consumed). For the last couple weeks the woman and I have been making our meals at home. I’ve been drinking milk daily and making small adjustments here and there, slowly breaking bad habits. Little progress is still progress nonetheless.
The week has been a blur, half the time I can’t remember what I’ve done or worked on. I went to bed earlier because I have stuff to do Saturday morning. Signing off now…
Day 19: Blowing Chunks
Thursday May 5, 2011
It’s Thursday so that means it’s hiking day. My head wasn’t in it, I felt tired because the night before I didn’t get to bed until sometime after 12:30am. I ate lunch late and something happened if you read the title of this post. We walked fast to get to the Sharmuta around 20 minutes, I was huffin’ and puffin’ in the 80 degree heat. Up the hill I let my lunch go. It was sick. I felt a little better. Went further up the hill and let some more of my lunch go. I felt a lot better. We finished the hike in a time not close to being better than last week. My fault of course. Anyways, to cut it short, the lesson is to not eat a late lunch and if you’re gonna blow chunks, do it when others can’t see you do it. Quite embarrassing.
Day 18: Damn, Another Headache!
Wednesday May 4, 2011
I get this strange feeling of Deja Vu, didn’t I have a headache last week around this time? Well, this time I took Advil before I left for work so it’s not as painful and did eventually die out a couple hours into the morning. I really need a new pillow, the one I have now is very flat. What can I say about the morning – I forgot my soda, I’m disgusted about my truck, it’s so dirty and needs a bath, and it’s hotter than a devil’s asshole lately (weather app said high of 90 degrees). I’m looking forward to the hike with the wise man tomorrow, but not to the blistering heat.
There isn’t much else to say. I watched the news and I remembered a couple of reasons why I don’t watch it – it’s either too depressing or there is some stupid shit that’s retarded.
Case in point: Amazon let’s people post their items for sale, however doesn’t collect sales tax for California because Amazon doesn’t have brick & mortar presence in that state. The merchants that do have a presence in CA and ship the product to CA are required to collect sales tax, however Amazon doesn’t collect it through their system. The way this one guy from the news story that sells on Amazon makes it sound, they don’t give him the option to collect the sales tax. The geniuses in CA want to pass some law to force Amazon the collect sales tax, however if such a law is established, it’s possible Amazon will drop the merchants in CA using their site to sell their goods.
Okay, so I think, why does this dumbass even bother selling his books on Amazon, I mean, he has an actual store front, he should start his own website so he can control his own sales tax collection – get with the times, dude. In addition, Amazon rips off the merchant to begin with their insane fees so I don’t know why anyone would want to list their products with them. I know this first hand having sold my old textbooks through them. Second, it’s not like Amazon doesn’t have the resources to implement controls in their merchant stores to designate sales tax collection (percentages or what have you), so why haven’t they done it? It’s similar to eBay’s stupidity where you can only specify a single tax rate per state. Unfortunately, CA isn’t a flat percentage statewide, it varies by district, so this causes inaccurate sales tax collection and the merchant has to cover the difference when their sales tax payment is due. To quote my coworker’s favorite line – it’s Bullshit!
I’ve gone off on one of my tangents again. I’m going to stop now since it’s 12:22am.
Day 17: Cheez-Its, Yummmm
Tuesday May 3, 2011
Tuesday was a late day at work, I didn’t get home until 7:30pm. The woman cooked dinner. It was Refried Beans and Taquito night, a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich, and then I topped it off with half a box of Cheez-Its. Waited a while, and ate more Cheez-Its while watching CSI. I couldn’t help myself, I was hungry for some reason. I rarely pig out like this.
I’m in need of a haircut. I keep putting off my head shave – haven’t really felt like doing it or much of anything else – just really tired. I haven’t thought about smoking which is amazing and my head is still bald which is not amazing. I sound like a broken record, but it was another late night. In bed around 1am again like the night before. Tried to get Ogre3D working on my MacBook without success (the samples wouldn’t compile because of a linker error to the boost library). Time will not be spent on correcting this until I’ve finished my demo conversion to Linux and then to Mac.
Day 16: When Everything Goes Dark
Monday May 2, 2011
The excitement began a little after 4pm. I’m sitting in my chair working on code modifications while talking to my coworker, then all of a sudden there was darkness, the office went black, the hum of electrical items going silent, the power went out. Tis has happened a couple other times randomly, but mostly when it’s been raining, not the case here. We still had packages to do in the warehouse, so I had to get the shipping computer online. Low Tech 101: run extension cord from battery backup to computer and untangle power cords and connect surge protector. I had everything booted up and five minutes into doing packages the power comes back up. Total downtime – approximately 30 minutes. Ugh.
This was the only highlight of my day, the rest was a snooze fest. Another late night as usual working on my personal code. I hit the sack around 1am.
